A Happy Book Recommendation

These times…they be a tryin’. If it is not one thing, it is another thing. A lot is happening in the world, and it is scary. It is literally something new every week that is just awful and constantly making me think we are living in the darkest timeline. I am going to go on a bit of a sidequest here and leave my thrillers, dystopians, and other books that make one think too much about society behind for something a bit more like there are things worth saving in the world. Yes, it is possible to leave a book feeling joy and not dread…sometimes. These are the books that I have read that made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, so maybe they can do the same for you.

Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt: This book is truly heartwarming. Found family in every sense of the word. Not knowing where you come from, or feeling alone, can be a powerful thing, but so can finding those who make us feel whole again. Plus, there is a cynical Octopus. And who can say no to that? I promise, the end of this book will make you feel warm and toasty inside.

Enchantment by Orson Scott Card: Okay, so this book is an oldy. I first read it in high school, or middle school… actually, I think it was both because I read it more than once. It has everything, a magical retelling of not one myth, but two (Sleeping Beauty and Baba Yaga and her chicken feet house), battles, time travel, enemies to lovers, a loving family, it is magical in more ways than one, and if you like fairy tales, romance, magical, or just a good old historical drama, this is a great pick for you.

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir: Okay, hear me out. The stakes in this book are real and they are intense. Ryland Grace has the literal fate of the world on his shoulders, but how can you not just feel a sense of warmth and love from his friendship with Rocky? If you haven’t read it but have seen the movie trailers and want to see, please, please, please read the book. Or even listen to it on audiobook. The narration is perfectly done. One of the best books about the end of the world I have ever consumed.

I will have more to add, but here is the list to start. Happy reading :)
